Carey Snyder resides in western North Carolina and hails from
Kentucky where he was raised with an appreciation of the outdoors
and discovered rock climbing at and early age. That love for the
outdoors lead Carey to work in Yellowstone National Park during
2002 where he further developed a love for backpacking and all
things nature. He later earned a degree in English with a minor
in philosophy from Murray State University in 2004. During and
after college, Carey has worked with children and adolescents
in a number of different academic, recreational, and therapeutic
settings. Anything from substitute teaching to guiding backcountry
expeditions, to working with at-risk youth in the outdoors as
a guide.
Over the past few years he has enjoyed guiding for two different
wilderness therapy programs, where his focus was addressing the
needs of students with ADHD and other learning and behavioral
difficulties. Most recently, he finished a year stint with Phoenix
Outdoor Wilderness Program, and has been with RDCI for over a
year. Carey currently works in a residential treatment program
for at-risk and troubled teens, and backpacks just for fun now.
Carey prefers to fill his spare time in the outdoors, but also
enjoys books, music, travel, and the fellowship of good company.
